Welcome to the official Les Chats Girls Basketball site!

Mission

The Les Chats Basketball Club has been established for the purpose of allowing girls to improve their basketball skills, and play at a competitive level of sports. The club is open to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity or background.

Research has shown that kids who are active in sports fare better academically and have better self-esteem of themselves vs kids that do not participate in sports. They are also less likely to be involved in destructive habits.

The primary mission of les Chats basketball club, is to use Basketball as a platform to academic and self excellence.

Les Chats History

The Les Chats Basketball Club was founded in the spring of 2004, as a 6th grade girls competitive basketball team. In the summer of 2005 a 4th grade girls team was added an in 2007 a 2nd grade team formed.
Based in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, the club currently has an 8th grade girls team and a 4th grade girls team. The older team founded in 2004 has moved on to successfully play with their high school.  The teams continue to be challenged through intense practices and league and/or tournament play against older competition. The 8th graders play at both the 8th grade and High School levels.  The 4th graders currently play 4th and 5th grade level.

The hallmark of the Les Chats teams is individual skill development both defensive and offensive. The expectation is for all players to be the best basketball players that they can be at both ends of the court.

We hope to accomplish this by playing for a schedule that provides the young athletes a stable and cocnsistent training schedule. We also allow for breaks during the season to allow the young athletes sufficient time to recuperate.

We also strongly believe that young athletes should continue to pursue other interests and or sports. Our schedules are reasonably flexible to allow for this to be a reality

The results have been very flattering with several top finishes at major local, regional and National tournaments. Most recently, the 7th grades finished 3rd in 2009 AAU U12 Nationals at Kinsport, TN. In 2008, the same group of girls finished 7th at the AAU U11nationals in Branson, MO.

In 2009, the 4th (then 3rd) graders placed 3rd at the MAYB nationals in Oklahoma City, OK.

Our greatest results have been the performance of the girls at school. All of our players are expected to maintain at least a B average, and several are actually straight A students.

Les Chats basketball club will seek the most competitive tournaments for its teams. As such we play in all major basketball events including MAYB, AAU, USJN, USSSA and several local tournaments.

Les Chats Goals and Objectives

Our primary goal is to use Basketball as a platform to academic and self excellence. Our secondary goal is to raise the competitive level of girls' basketball in Kansas and expose our female student athletes to the best women's basketball coaches and competition in the nation. To achieve these goals we will;

  1. Develop and maintain a club, which promotes the game of basketball for girls.
  2. Offer a program that focuses on basketball skills development, team play, basketball education, and positive club activities, in addition to providing club members with an opportunity to have fun!
  3. Strive to be financially sound and provide affordable membership to all those who are willing and able to make a commitment to our club.
  4. Provide assistance to economically disadvantaged members who are willing to make a commitment to our club.
  5. Provide coaching and use other resources that enhance player development.
  6. Be an example of class and quality, conducting ourselves in an honorable and sportsmanlike manner.
  7. Strive to seek out the strongest competition; strong competition helps the team/players improve and reveal our weaknesses.
  8. Be a positive force in the local community by seeking out opportunities for community service.
  9. Compete at the state and national level.
  10. Look for opportunities where the players can be exposed to College Coaches.

Our FUTURE PLANS of the organization include:

-To organize tournaments/ venues for competition
· To sponsor a competitive basketball instructional camp for all ages.
· To receive grants and sponsorship to help fund the organization and its activities.

We play in all venues: USSSA - AAU - MAYB - USJN inorder to play the TOP TEAMS so that we may improve on our performance as much as possible.

If you are a hard working dedicated player who wants to improve her game and who is willing to commit for the entire year.

- This Club is for you!
